Getting a leather bag may seem easy but maintaining it needs good care. Following are Few tips for Cleaning Leather bags.

  • The best way to clean your bag is to look at the manufacturer tag. They may have instructions as of how to clean your leather bag.
  • Empty the contents of the leather bag. Turn the bag upside down and tap it gently so that the extra dust and the debris come off.
  • Wipe the leather bag to remove the external dust and make sure it is devoid of any moisture.
  • Don’t keep your leather bags enclosed inside a container or any plastic bag. Let them breathe easily. Choking them out of air will make cracks to appear.
  • Take some distilled water and detergent/face wash mixture in a spraying bottle. Spray the mixture on to a cloth or sponge and then clean the leather purse. Make sure to squeeze out the extra water so that the cloth/sponge is not too damp. Avoid spraying the liquid directly on to the bag.
  • Keep the leather bags away from the exposure of sunlight. Direct exposure can affect the quality of the leather and also will make the color of the bag to fade away.

  • Also while cleaning make the stroking a little slower and make the stroking motion according to the leather pattern. This will help in keeping the pattern intact.
  • If the purse contains ink stains, soak the cotton/cloth in isopropyl alcohol and get off the stain by rubbing over them. In case of a grease stain, wipe it off using a dry cloth and then sprinkle some talcum powder over the purse to make it free from the moisture. You can also use a paste of tartar and lemon to clean away other types of stains.
  • Never use petroleum products to clean off the surface of the leather bag. It can damage the leather used in the bag. Also keep the bag away from mink oil and polish.
  • Try using a leather protector and conditioner for best results. If you don’t have any idea as of how to clean your leather bag always feel free to consult a specialist.
