You’ve decided to go to the Costa Brava on holiday, and you’ve chosen to look at a range of costa brava villas to rent, but have you thought about how you’re going to travel around the area? Many people seem to assume that going from one place to the other is quite easy. Other people assume that everything they need (the beach, shops, bars & clubs) will be in one place. However, when they realise that getting around can be a little harder than they anticipated they often wish they had thought about travel sooner.

This is where we can come in and offer a bit of a helping hand. We can help you to learn all about the Costa Brava’s travel options so you can make an informed decision about how you’re going to get around. Read on for more information!

Airport Transfers

One of the very first things you’ll need to do when you get to this lovely part of the world is to get to your villa or hotel. Some holiday companies offer airport transfers as part of their package, but others don’t. If you need to get to your lovely villa from an airport you may want to think about flying to Girona as the connections at this airport are usually pretty good.

At Girona airport, you will have the option to take a bus to every coastal town, but if you’re headed for Barcelona you’ll need to hop on a train. However, if you would prefer to travel by taxi you’ll find plenty of them outside the airport, specifically the arrivals terminal.

Travelling by Bus

Travelling by bus around the Costa Brava is usually quite cheap as there are many different bus companies offering to take you on many different routes. Buses tend to be very cheap and they can take you to all of the major resorts and towns from any of the larger bus stations. However, if you would like to travel to some of the smaller villages or towns like Begur and those beaches that are a little harder to reach on foot you will find that the bus schedules leave a lot to be desired. If you insist on visiting a small village or one of the more secluded beaches then you should consider hiring a car or taking a taxi.

On your travels you’ll probably see quite a few advertisements for ‘Sarfa’, this is the biggest bus company in the Costa Brava and their prices are usually very reasonable. To be honest, you won’t be spending very much money on any bus trip you take as they tend to be quite cheap. While you’re on your vacation you may want to think about checking out the bus schedules as some of them differ day to day. The good news is that if you know the name of the local bus companies you can go online and check out the schedules.

Travelling by Taxi

If you love to travel by taxi then you’ll love the Costa Brava. There is an abundance of taxi’s in this part of the world and they’re usually very good too. If you would like to travel around town or you missed the last bus home you’ll find it very easy to get a taxi.

Taxies can usually be booked through your hotel or villa, and they can also be hailed as they drive by on the street. You’ll also see plenty of taxi’s hanging around cities and there will, of course, be a few around the taxi ranks too.

 Travelling by Boat

Many of Costa Brava’s locals tend to travel by boat quite a bit. Boats provide a really good way to travel around, and you can usually hop on one that offers a day trip somewhere. However, there are also some small ferries that can take you to one or two of the fishing ports, so why not jump on one of those and see where it takes you? Of course, you will not be able to travel any great distance on one of these boats or ferries, but they can add a touch of excitement to your holiday.

Travelling by Bicycle

If you love to travel around by bicycle whenever you can, you may find that the Costa Brava is your ideal holiday destination. This is because cycling is hugely popular in the area, in fact, you’re very likely to see some of the world’s top cyclists heading to the Costa Brava, Why not do what many tourists and amateur cyclists do and rent out a bike? You don’t have to cycle along those endless country roads, you can always cycle to Girona or around the resort.

Travelling by Hired Car

Lastly, but by no means least is the hired car. Car hire in the Costa Brava can be so much better than public transport simply because you’ll have the freedom to travel where you want when you want. Please note that you do not have to hire a car for the whole week or two, you can always hire a car for one day at a time if you wish. Hiring a car will give you the independence you need to explore the Costa Brava without you having to stick to a bus, train, or boat timetable.

There are many different ways to travel around the Costa Brava, making this part of the world more accessible to everyone. Think about what you would like to do on your holiday, and decide which form of transport is the best so you have the freedom you need to get to where you want to be.
