Wouldn’t it be nice if we could afford to spend all day, every day in a luxurious spa, completely stripped of negativity, and submerged in relaxation and a bubbly bath while having some delicious champagne? Ah yes, that would be nice. But, the best thing us mortals can hope for is a yearly visit to the spa – usually for our birthday, and usually only because somebody gifted us a coupon; come on, we are constantly working, and our schedules are very busy, we barely manage to squeeze in our meals, let alone frequent spa visits!

However, not all hope is lost. There is a magical room all of us have in our homes that has the potential to become this place of serenity and peace with just some remodeling and a bit of magic. You’ve guessed it – we’re talking about the bathroom. So, if you too wish to turn your bathroom into a tiny personal oasis, there are a few useful guidelines you should keep in mind. Let’s check them out.

Play with colors

Colors play a huge role in the interior design, so it would be wise to consider them right at the beginning. If you’ve never been in a spa, you can check out various designs online, but if you’ve visited a few of them, try to remember the predominant hues in your favorite one and mirror them in your bathroom.

For example, various shades of muted blue are always a good choice, since they enhance the feeling of relaxation and mimic the water which is known to have a calming effect on the human mind. Whites, off-whites and neutrals are also welcome, but be careful with them because you may end up with a place that looks too sterile. On the other hand, if that happens, you can always break the monotony with a shower curtain that mimics Turkish tiles, or some other bathroom ornaments (including lighting fixtures, mirrors and even bathroom mats).

Mind the fixtures

Once you’ve created a perfect color-base for your new bathroom, it’s time to move on to bathroom fixtures. Here, you will have plenty of options to choose from, so before you go browsing, try to create a specific theme and stick to it as much as possible. For example, for a touch of that vintage luxury, check out some elegant freestanding bathtubs. Not only do they look simply amazing and are extremely practical, but they also make for an excellent focal point.

Further, go for a bench mounted wash basin with a brass faucet (if your faucet is brass, your showerhead should match) and a concealed cistern toilet. Also, try to match your lighting fixtures with your faucet and showerhead in the finish to beautifully tie the design together. For an added touch of luxury, you can even implement a bidet and install some good waterproof speakers because, without some soothing melodies lulling you into peacefulness, it would be rather difficult to create a true spa-like feel. Finally, add a concealed cooler in your vanity, to make sure your bubbly is always at the right temperature.

Accessorize

Accessories are another small detail that can make or break any space. When going for a true spa feel, think in terms of bamboo and other organic materials, but also greenery. Add a beautiful shower and vanity bamboo caddies to store all of your products – remember, there’s no room for clutter in a spa – and pair them with a bamboo shower mat. Also, you can even include a few pots with bamboo in the design to truly bring in nature into your bathroom design.

Towels and shower curtains are another design elements that can enhance the natural vibe if you choose them carefully. Natural sponges, faux corals and ornaments made of seashells are also a definite must in any spa-like bathroom.

Greenery is the final piece of the puzzle that will bring life to your bathroom both visually and literally. As already mentioned, you can go for bamboo, but you can also add various succulents or even orchids since they like damp and warm environments. However, if you don’t have enough natural light, plants like dragon tree, peacock plant and spider plant are a better choice.

Even though we’ve barely managed to scratch the surface of the topic, we hope that we’ve, at least, managed to tickle your imagination and steer your thoughts in the right direction. And yes, completely redecorating your bathroom will cost you a pretty penny, but the benefits it will bring can’t be measured in coin. If you manage to pull this off, you will be able to submerge yourself in peace and relaxation whenever you feel like you need it which will only positively affect your mindset and improve your overall well-being. So, don’t hesitate, but get down to work as soon as possible.
